Aurora is a registered charitable trust that exists to promote and support the financial capability, resilience and wellbeing of people in the community by providing high quality:

  • education and training

  • resources and information

  • free and confidential financial mentoring

Services are provided free to individuals, whānau and community groups, thanks to the generous support we receive from our funders and supporters.

The organisation has a long and well-regarded history of supporting the Nelson community with their personal financial matters. Previously known as Nelson Budget Service, the name 'Aurora' was chosen to symbolise the beginning of a new day, resilience and hope; reflecting both our approach of empowerment, and also the many strengths and aspirations of the people who connect with the service.

Anyone can self-refer for financial mentoring by registering online here. Please note, there is often a wait-list for this service.

Group education and resource development is a key focus for Aurora. Funding from the Lottery Grants Board and Nelson Building Society enable us to provide free group sessions for community groups  and schools. Workshops and courses are also available for workplaces and any other interested groups. Find out more here.
